THIS WEEK'S ILLUSTRATIONS. The recent gallant charge of the Canadian troops at Ypres stands out among tho many bravo actions of the oversea soldiers during- tho present war. this attack on tho enemy saw a a liereo hand-to-hand onslaught with bayonet, rifle-butt and spade, and resuited in tho complete overthrow ol tli? Germans, and their surrender. A full-pago engraving depicting this magnificent charge will appear in this, week's "Canterbury Times." Another picture of a similar character, in which our French, allies took part, shows tin men crawling through barbed-wire entanglements previous to a brave dash which completely demoralised the Germans, will also find a place in the illustrated pages. Other views dealing with war subjects will include a line picture of a mine crater, a company of tho gallant Royal Irish showing German trophies taken during the British advance, and photographs of German prisoners captured by tho British, and the ruins of tho centre of Verdun, the most talked of town in the world. Women working as "stevedores" in unloading grain from barges on the Thames wii! give an idea of the patriotic help that is being cheerfully rendered in this direction. Scenes which are more closely identified with the New Zealanders in Egypt and Salonika will also form features of this week's issue of the people's journal. There will bo several pictures associated with purely Dominion affairs, including "Violet Day in Christchurch," patriotic gatherings at tho Aranui School, ISew Brighton, a Maori fete in aid of tho Wounded Soldiers' Fund at Matawai, Poverty Bay, and tho new Baptist Church at Hastings Of courso, there will be numbers of other pictures of absorbing publie interest, but those mentioned will bo sufficient to demonstrate, tho excellence and wide range of the subjects that will appear in the illustrated pages. The literary pages will, as u.'iial, be found replete with the very best in every section and cannot fail to give pleasure and information to every class of reader. Tho "Canterbury Times" will be on salo locally from noon to-morrow.
