AN INTERESTING LETTER. [From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, August 18. j In the course of an interesting let-; tor to the Minister of Defence, Lieutenant \V. Downie Stewart, M.P. for Dunedin West, refers to his experiences somewhere in France. “ I am away from the trenches for ; six days,” ho writes, “at a sniping school behind the lines. The work is f most interesting, and I am glad’ or tho ’ chance of attending this , school, whero^ I hare gained valuable information At a later date ho says:—“ lam now back at the front, where we have just come out to rest tho men after fourteen ■ days in the first line. Our boys havo. y had several brushes with the enemy in; ‘No Man’s land,’ and, I think, held | their own yery well. There are aU _ sons of schools for training, and every . time th’-- men come out 1 of the rno’a certain number of them and officers go - to these schools for training. Thero isnot much rest. Tho men are doing well, and you would’ bo very proud of thorn, y. This town is a sad sight. No ora will be sorry when the war .ends.
