BATTLE OF THE SOMME. LONDON, July 25.—Heavy fighting continues in Pozteres village, where the Australians took prisoners. There is great artillery activity on the other parts of the front. The British staff is stated to be satisfied with the progress made. There has been •comparative calm on the French front. VERDUN REGION, PARIS, July 25.—The French after a lively artillery fight captured a redoubt westward of the Thiaumont work. RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE. PETROGRAD, July 25.—The Russians dislodged the enemy from a position on the Lipa front. The Austrians claimed to have repulsed the Russians at several points. THE ITALIAN CAMPAIGN. ROME, July 25.—Austrian positions on the Dolomite front were captured by the Italians who repulsed enemy attacks. TOWARD ERZINGAN. PETROGRAD, July 25.—The Russians have made further progress towards Erzingan, having taken a Turkish line of entrenchments.
NAVAL ENCOUNTERS. LONDON, July 25.—German destroyers were met off the Dutch coast by a British patrol, but escaped to the Belgian coast. Two were damaged.
