WINTER SHOW.

ASHBURTON. There was a good attendance at the Ashburton Winter Show ou Friday night, and the total takings at the door were £.1.5 os fid for the day, as against £ll 13s on the first day last year. At tho dose of the show, tho committee entertained the judges and a large number of visitors at supper, tho president, Mr IT. Davis, presiding. During the function members of tho committee expressed pleasure at the action of the Government Agricultural Department in helping tho show by scnditig forward its magnificent and comprehensive exhibit; Mr Macpliorson, of the Fields Division of the Agricultural Department, in reply submitted figures showing the great success which had attended tho exhibition of New Zealand farming and other products at the Panama Exposition, and expressed a hope that farmers and others would take every advantage of the work the Department was doing and not lie backward in asking for any information it could give. Mr Macplierson, who had been one of the judges of roots at tho show, expressed pleasure at the all-round good quality of the exhibits which he had seen that day. Mr M’Taggart, another officer of the Agricultural Department, also expressed a hopo that tho farmers ol the district would seek any information tliey nccdod. and tho Department would readily help them in any way it could. Mr C. Cusscji. Government Poultry Instructor, who had judged the utility classes, gave hints on poultry-raising and spoke in terms of praise of the quality of the birds on exhibition.
