Sir Douglas Haig reports:—A party of Gloucester entered the enemy's trenches south of Neuve Chapello and successfully attacked the garrison. Our heavy artillery destroyed the railway station of Salome, east of La Bassee, setting a train on fire and damaging the track. We also obtained good results against strong behind the enemy's lines north of Hulluch. There- has been a good deal of artillery fighting east of Ypres, our guns engaging the enemy positions successfully. We effectively bombarded the enemy east of Laventie. We exploded six successful mines at the Hohernzollem redoubt, Hulluch, Neuville St Vaast, and north and east of Albert - •• ~ JU ; , (Salome is about a mile north-east or La Bassee, and Laventie is about six miles south-west of Araentieres.)
