LONDON, May 26.—The Germans claim the capture of the quarry south of Haudromont. Tho French state that a series of German assaults between Haudromont wood and Thiaumont were repulsed except at one part, where the enemy captured some elements. The bombardment is heavy. A semiofficial French message describes the recent fighting as the fiercest of the war on the western front. THE TRENTINO OFFENSIVE. LONDON, May 26.—Several small captures in the TrentIno offensive are claimed by the Austrians, but the Italians, who are being heavily reinforced in men and guns, state that the offensive is temporarily checked. An Italian offensive at Avlona is said to be threatening. ON THE TIGRIS. LONDON, May 25.—The Turks are still at Sanna-i-Tat on the left bank of the Tigris, but the British are maintaining an effective fire from the right bank. Petrograd officially reports that the Russians at Kermanshah have functioned with the British on the Tigris. , EAST OF SUEZ. LONDON, May 26.—British airmen bombed enemy posts east of the Suez Canal. The recent bombardment of El Arish is said to have been very effective. THE IRISH PROBLEM. LONDON, May 25.—Mr Asquith in the House of, Commons announced that Mr Lloyd George would devote himself to the settlement of the Irish problem. Conferences with the Irish leaders are to begin immediately. MILITARY SERVICE ACT. LONDON, May 25.—The Royal assent has been given to the Military Service Act.
