MARKET REPORTS.

POULTRY.

Messrs J. B. Merrott and Co. report an entry ot 3000 birds for their first Christmas Rale on Saturday. Many cf the birds lacked priming, although those larmeni who had fedtheir birds well were amply rewarded with high prices. Owing to the- dry season and the shortage of grass, goslings are not so forward as desired. Hans are easier in price, consequent on heavy sajes induced by tht rising price of feeds. Ducklings are scarce, and prime birds are j n great demand. Table ch;ck«ns realised 6 8 6d to 10s sd, ducklings 5s to 9s -Id, goslings 63 to 10s Cd, ducks 5s to Ts, pullets 3s 6d to 9s, turkeys lis to 275; all at par pair. Messrs A. B. TATTERSALL'S HORSE BAZAAR. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report an entry cf -17 horses on Saturday. The quality taken ell round was fair, a few useful sorts being- .entered, but tho continuous drought is hiving a, had effect on all classes cf stock as far as tales are concerned, arid Saturday's market was no exception to thia rulo. Among tho entry wa« a consignment of three and four-year-old hacks from the Lyndon Estate-. Waiau. These, were first-ciaas. wellgrown sorts, and competition for them was good at moderate, prices. The following were the principal sales: —Account Lyndon Estate, hacks at £U, £l2, £O, £7 JC's, £7. £o : Ai 103 and £i: Mr T.. L. Cowlichaw, ChrisVhurch, cob £l3: client, draught mare, £lB 10s and two daught geldings at £ll 10s and £l2 15s. Older and inferior sorts of harness horses were cold at late rates. ASHBURTGX. Wheat.—The chief feature of the market is the general demand for wheat, which developed about a week ago. and the decided advance that has taken place in value. Several mills appear to be now short of stock, hut find holders very firm in their demands. This, in conjunction with the fairly high price ruling in Atistralia, • instead of the much lower level of values, which, before the opening of that market wes anticipated would be the eaee,. has had tho effect of quite nitering: the position of the Dominion market. Buyers are to-day offering- from 4s lOd to 5» on trucks, country stations, for milling wheat.

Oats. —The market for this cereal is still in a dormant condition, as, apart from business of a retail nature for local <lemand, the coastal demand docs not command a price which enables merchants to pay growers a priori which will tempt them to part with their stocks. Nominally, value for foastal shipment, is 2s 8d to 2fe 9d on trucks. Chuff.—Enlino rate is 85s to IOJs, on rail, for prime quality.
