NEWS AND NOTES. Nominations for tho Auckland Trotting Club's summer meeting will close to-night. Acceptances and general entries for the. Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting are due to-night. Nominations for tho Dunedin Jockey Club’s summer meeting will close tonight. The Waikouaiti Racing Club will bike nominations to-day for its annual laco meeting.

Acceptances for the Mo.th.vnn Racing Club’s meeting will close to-moriow night, at eight o’clock. There was nothing of a sensational character about tho work done at Rices rton yesterday. Most of the horses wero stretched out at top, ou tho plough having been watered overnight, the going was slower than usual.

For tho first half-hour the track was reserved for working the reverse way. Snub opened proceedings D.v covering a mile and a quarter in 2mm 14 4-ssee, without l>eing unduly hurried. Warstep ran a mile in Imin 45 1-osec, Wardancer accompanying her over tho first five furlongs, w'hich occupied lmm o 2-ssec. Flying Start heat Sail Sebastian over a milo in lmin 491-Ssec. Wisehird, Goo<l Hope, Ticino and Greenstreet were given useful tasks. Adjutant beat Snapdragon over a mile in lmin 451-ssec, time winch Chrysotis and Court Martial equalled, with Chrysotis slightly in front at the finish.

Floweret sprinted half a mile in 52 4-oseo, and Moidant beat Glco ovei five furlongs in lmin 6 2-ss.ee.

Red Knight heat Svcaborg ovor six furlongs in lmin 19 2-osoc. Randy was just in front of Sir Hamilton, with Glcnowl a poor third, in lmin 18 l-ssec. Equivocal beat Melford by a bead in lmin lOsec, while Comely and Bore did lmin ISsec nicely.

Countess Tolstoi was too good for Marc Anthony at the end of a mile, which occupied lmin 481-osec. Madrid'was a little bettor than Lord Royal at the end of five furlongs, which they left behind in lmin 15 2-osec.

St Ewe was responsible for a particularly smart gallop over six furlongs, which she left behind in lmin 17 l-ssec. After breakfast, when the track had dried up a lot, First Glance covered a milo in lmin 4osee, but she was slowing down over tho last part. Mnlvolia sprinted half a milo easily in 50 3-ssec, Kaminohe taking 54 2-osec to get through a similar task in leisurely style. Reveller ran six furlongs, the last five occupying lmin 5 3-osec. Bimeter had an easy task in the Oroua Stakes, on the second day of the Feilding meeting. The opposition was far from strong, as Rjorneborg, who finished second, was beaten into third place in the Aorungi 1 rial Bfato on the previous day. Bimeter has avoided ,u penalty lor tho Auckland Railway Handicap. Tho hurdler Diavolo is now the property of his trainer, G. Jones, who bought the gelding before lie left Australia on lus return to New Zealand.

Field Trix, by Field Battery—Trix, was among the winners at Epsom, Melbourne, last month. -She is a sister to Adroit, who has some useful sprint form to her credit in the North Island. Tho Now Zealand-bred gelding Ataakua finished a long way back in a brush steeplechase on one ol the Melbourne suburban courses last month. A few' years ago he was a champion hurdler, and on one occasion only lost the Australian Hurdle Handicap at Caulfield through a mishap at the last obstacle, where ho had a long lead from the rest of the field.

The English jockey William Griggs, who relinquished about £2OOO a year in retaining fees in order to enlist ns a private’in the Royal Naval Air Service, has since been given a commission.

One of America’s great breeding establishments, tho Elmendorf Stua, founded by the late J. R- Haggin, was to have been disposed of a few weeks 'ago on behalf of his heirs. The .stallions included Rallot, Hessian and Sain, sixty-eight brood mares and thirty-one, yearlings. At ono time there were nearly 250 mares at Elmendorf, but when racing in New York was practically wiped out Mr Haggin cut down his stud. Rallot was bought by Mr Haggin about three years ago, the price paid for him being the highest for an American-bred stallion since Mr L. Winans gave £15.000 for Sir Martin in 190 S. In his time Rallot was a great rat-elm me, winning, according to an American exchange, eighteen races and over £30,000 in stakes. Ho is by Voter. Hessian, who is a young stallion, is by Watercress, and on tho maternal side descends from the Musket family.

At tlm meeting of tbc New Zealand Trotting Association tliis week permission was granted to the Auckland Trotting Club lo give purses at. the summer meeting for record performances over one mile and two miles. A purse of £IOO will lie given to any stallion or mare breaking the New Zealand twomile record in harness, with an additional £l5O if the record is lowered by four seconds. A similar purse will also he given for a now record over a mile, the extra £l5O being given if the record is lowered by two seconds. A Hying start, and a pacemaker will be allowed. In the event of more than one horse competing for any record, the. horse establishing the best time under that stipulated will receive, the purse. Nominations for the meeting are due to-night, hut entries for the records need not lie made till Friday, December 17, when acceptances close for the first day’s handicaps.
