RED CROSS WORK.

CATHEDRAL SQUARE DEPOT

The usual week-end salo of home-made delicacies, flowers, etc., will take place at the Depot (next Tost Office.) to-night and to-mor-row morning l . The sale is being organised and conducted by Mesdumes F. 1. Cowliehaw, J. 'Beckett, J. Williams, C. J. Cooper and A. M'Keilar. There will he a fine display ol prize flowers, and besides the usual variety of foodstuffs there will be on sale Christmas cakes, puddings and nther special items. Gifts in kind have been received from Mrs F. W. Hutton, the Misses Hall and Mrs Gilbert Hutton. A City Branch has been established at 119. Worcester Street for the issue of free work to residents within tho city area. Those unable to help in any other way are invited to give their services in making up material, which may be obtained any day, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Central Red Cross Depot, corner of Worcester and Manchester Streets, Christchurch, will be closed from December 23. 1915, until January 4, 1916. Heads of branches arc requested to send in orders for material or cut-out garments as early as possible before December 23. The committee would also bo grateful for any made-up goods to be forwarded to tho depot before that date. SYDENHAM. The committee of the Sydenham Red Cross Branch met in St Saviour's Schoolroom on Wednesday evening, Mr Clark presiding over a fair attendance. . A most satisfactory report was received from the Canvassing Committee, amounts totalling about £35 having already been promised during the first month of the campaign, and several contributions have yet to be reported. The cash received was £29 8s 3d. , ... Mrs Odering, Sydenham scoutmiftress, handed 12s 6d to the' fund, being the amount oollcctcd at the Girl Peace Scouts' concert. It was stated that a silk flag, anonymously donated to tho fund, would bo auctioned at the Sydenham School concert. LOWER RICCARTON BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Lower Riccarton Red Cross Branch was held on November 24, in the Town Hall. Work received for the month was as follows :—Eighteen pairs socks, 8 vests, 9 jjvjamas, 7 underpants, J bed socks, 30 small bags, 81 handkerchiefs. 1 dressing-gown, 6 bed jackets, 1 dny shirt, 4 scarves, 2 nightingalos, 85 bandages, 20 traycloths. 10 toilets, 10 dusters, 90 operation cloths, 30 fomentation cloths, 30 bottle covers, 90 swabs. The ladies of the Ashley Sewing Class in connection with the Red' Cross movement, have been very busy lately, and the following garments, etc., have been finished and forwarded to the Kowai Countv Branch by tho president. Mrs Wilson:—26 suits of pyjamas, Iff bed jackets. F. night shirts, 13 flannel shirts, 2 flannel coats, 2 dressing gowns, 9 underpants, 8 flannel vests, 8 body belts, 3 flannel binders. 42 hot water bottle covers, 68 fomentation cloths, 7 surgical veils, 66 diet eloths. 44 face cloths. 92 operation cloths, 30 toilet squares. 3 scarves, li pairs cf sox, 3 balaclavas and a quantity of old linen. Tho treasurer of the Ashley Branch, Mrs Burns, has received the following donations to buy wool: —£2 Is from the Ashley Band of Hope,' 18s front the W.C.T.U., and £3 procoed? from sale of flowers at a concert held in schoolroom on November 26.
