SUNK IN MEDITERRANEAN. (Received December 2, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON. December 2. The British steamer Maliche was sunk in the Mediterranean. The crew has reached Malta. A GIRL’S HEROISM. ADRIFT IN OPEN BOAT. LONDON, December 1. Mr Martin Donohoe tells a thrilling story of the heroism of an eight-year-old girl passenger, on the steamer Bosnia, submarined near Candia. She was in a boat adrift for four days, buffeted by a fftrious wind, and an angry sea, with two brothers, three and two years of age. They had been separated from their parents, who were in another boat, and were scantily clad, but the girl’s courage never wavered. She cheered the sailors and clasped her little brothers in her arms to impart warmth to them. On the third day the supplies of food and water were finished, and though land was sighted the crew were too exhausted to reach the shore. The girl exhorted them to make further efforts, and herself helped with the oars. . To add to the horrors, an Italian passenger went mad, slashed an artery in his arm and sought to attack his companions. After a desperate struggle he was finally overpowered. Later the wind dropped, and the boat reached Mikros, on the island of Crete.
