The following communique has been issued: On Saturday and Sunday in the Dardanelles, there was the usual activity on both sides. One of our galleries penetrated a Turkish gallery, and our sappers put the occupants to flight with revolvers and grenades. WITH THE AUSTRALIANS. CHRISTMAS MAIL LOST. WINTER ON THE PENINSULA. Bean, cabling on November 18, states that a vessel carrying a large portion of the Australian soldiers’ Christmas mails foundered, and that 168 bags were lost. The weather is chilly, hut the troops are exceedingly confident, and cheerfully endure all hardships. “ Nevertheless, we must face the fact that winter is here, and will be ono of severe hardship. The Australian 3rd Brigad’e, the first troops to land, are still in tho trenches they have occupied continuously since the landing. It it only now being found possible to relieve a part of the brigade.”
