LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

annual;elections. FIVE ISSUES IN THE CITY. To-day the electors will be called upon to elect members of many local bodies In Christchurch five distinct issues will be presented—Mayoral, City Council, Hospital Boat'd, Harbour Board, and the weekly half-holiday. For all these issues the same roll will be used and the same method of voting followed. The franchise is the same as for parliamentary elections, but the roll used will be the municipal roll. To indicate his or her choice the voter must put a cross in the square set opposite the name of the candidate—or the issue, as the case may be—for whom he or she desires to vote. At the top of each ballot paper is plainly set out the number of members to bo elected. For instance, on the ballot papers for the Harbour Board election it is stated that four members have to be elected and the voter may vote for that number or any smaller number. In the city an elector may vote at any polling booth on the Mayoral, Hospital Board, Harbour Board and halfholiday issues, but for the council ward rolls are used, and the voter must vote in the ward according to the roll on which his or her name appears. The results of the Mayoral, City Counoil, Harbour Board, Hospital Board and half-holiday polls will he. shown on a board outside the Provincial Council Chambers.
