1 GRAIN AND PRODUCE. CHRISTCHuHCH, April 27. Business in grain and produce continues very quiet, and with priceß for oats ar.d wheat below what they were a few weeks ago. it is not surprising (o find that there are rather fewer sellers, few holder 3 being prepared to accept pncea below those Which they tefused scmo weeks ago when the market had a strong upward tendency, llillers are still apathetic with regard to wheat, and aro now .buyers, only when seilerß aro prepared to part with their, stocks at prices not excecnhip; 6s 4d on trucks at country stations, sacks extra. A fair amount continues to be placed on the market, but as stated previously, the prices that are being offered aro not. sufficiently 'high to tempt many to sell. Tho quality of" the wheat continues to bo of a vory high grade, beinc incomparably superior to that imported by the Government from Australia and the Dominion of CanudE. The oil market is decidedly in sympathy with the lower values ruling in the south, wlisre threshing is now in full swing. Tito offerings locally are r.ot on an extensive *ca!e, and a:i in the case of wheat, holders show much reluctance to self at prices below the offers which they had refused earlier in the season. Potatoes are now coming on to the market, fveoly. and supplies bein-f larger than-'mer-chants, can deaJ with, particularly as shipping space for the north is very difficult to procure, values have eased somewhat, and although tbere havo bten a few sales its high a* 80s on truck* at country stations/tho 1 general price offered is 75s per ton on trucks. .The voiuuin of business, however, is not large, the majority of prowers refusing to self at the prices which are now being offered. ASHBUETON. The weekly stock saJe held at the Tinwald Yards yesterday was a very poor one both as Regards attondanco and entry. The yarding was only 797, as against 2-t7ti at, tho AsbImrton Yards the previous week; it included. 195 fat owes, 38 fat lambs and 564 stores. The yarding of fat ewes only included two really prime lines, which were so'.d at 19s 6d and 20s respectively, the balance being medium and light-weighis. Of the yarding, 73 wore passed by auction. Tho following was the range of prices obtained: —Prime butcher's ewes 19s (!d to 20s, medium 14s 3d to 14s 9d, light-weights 10s 9d to 123 Cd, lambs 15s Id. The principal sales were:—Ewes—--22 at lis Sd. 16 at lis 3d, 16 at 10s 3d, 14 at 14s 9d, 10 at 12s Gd. 20 at 10s 6d, 21 at 20s. Lambs—29 at 15s Id. There were only four lines yarded in the store pens, three being mixed sex lambs, and a line of broken-mouth merino ewta. Every lot submitted was sold at auction at price* several shillings below that obtained several weeks back.
