* SUICIDE AT HASTINGS. [Per Press Association.] HASTINGS, April 27. Thorons Hopewell, aged thirty-four, a labourer, who recently arrived from Dunedin, last night committed suicido by cutting his throat with a razor. Deceased leaves a wife, and three children.

SYDNEY STEAMER PUTS BACK

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 27. Before the Sydney steamer Riverina., which left Auckland at half-past two this afternoon, had reached Tiritiri Lighthouse' a seaman named James Cairo", aged twenty-eight, fell down a hatchway. He landed on his feet, and injured his spine, and the vessel at once put back. After the man had been landed ho was taken up to tho hospital, and the steamer left again for Sydney at 4.20 p.m.

DEATH- THROUGH WAGGON ACCIDENT. [Per Press Association.] HAMILTON, April 27. William Hunter, late of Amberley, and for many years head shepherd on the Teviotdaie Estate, Canterbury, had both his legs' broken in a waggon accident at Okoroire on Friday, and died in tho Waikato Hospital last night.

LINCOLN RESIDENT FOUND SHOT.

Constable Edgar, stationed at Lincoln township, was informed by a resident at 7.30 a.m. yesterday that he had found William Bennett, a neighbour, lying on the ground, suffering from bullet wounds. The oonstable went to the spot indicated and found Bennett, with a large wound in his throat, and an automatic pistol by his side. One cartridge was discharged and a second had evidently misfired. Constable Edgar telephoned to Dr Thomas at Riccarton, who on arrival ordered Bennett to be removed to the Christchurch Hospital. ' .Last evening he was progressing as well as could be expected.
