HARVEST FESTIVAL.

TO BE HELD ON APRIL 17.

At a meeting of the executive in connection with the harvest festival to raise funds for the starving Belgians it was decided that the function should be postponed for a week and it will now be held at the Show Grounds on April 17. This decision was arrived at in consequence of complaints from business people in the city that the* previous date, April 10, fell in the same week as Ea3ter Monday, and much inconvenience would bo caused. In view of the fact that the Boar J « F Control of Lancaster Park has defied to hold a Queen of the Carnival election some time this autumn in aid of -the funds of that organisation, ni.-l has agreed to forgo any claim to priority, so as not to clash with the similar event in connection with the h-Tvest fe-tival, tlm committee of \he Bolcrinn Fund has decided to give a of, the proceeds to the Board of Control as <t is felt that the itTPted support of the, sports bodies will very materially add to the success of the fixture.

The -taff of the Cbnstchurch Trainway Board have decided to nominate a candidate in connection with _ tha "Queen of the Carnival" competition, which is being hold in connection with tbo Harvest Festival on Saturday, April 17. The selected nominee is Nurse Maude, who has given her consent to nomination.

Tlie staff have already commenced the campaign in the interests of their candid'ato, and every effort is to be made to nlace Nurse Maudo at the top of tho poll. • Tho colours chosen are green and uream.

CAFE CHANTANT. Judging by the large number of seats booked Le Chat Blanc Cafe Cbantant should be u great success and a very large attendance is anticipated at the Colosseum to-morrow and Saturday nights. Tho building is being specially decorated for the occasion and everything has been done to make tho first Cafe Chan tent hold in Christchurch equally as attractive as tho Continental cafes. His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool will be present at the opening ceremony to-morrow evening. SPREYDON. At tho last meeting of the committee of the Spreydon Patriotic Fund it was decided to donate £SO of tbo funds in hand towards the Belgium Belief bund, and to make the donation through tlie committee of the Harvest Carnival to be held on April 10. It was explained tho. J the first letter from the Carnival Committee had never reached the council, and the timo hod therefore been too .short to tako any organised action. Tbo Patriotic Fund Committee has asked tbo residents of Spreydon to support tho carnival individually by attending antl making purchases, by making contributions to stalls and by otherwise assisting wherever possible.

At the Addington saleyards yesterday Messrs H. Matson and Co. sold for the Stanley Park Company a fat ewe on behalf of the Belgian Fund. It was bought by Mr Burrows for 22s and resold to Mr G. Appleton at 21s.
