SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

RICHMOND. The Richmond School Committee met on Fj iriny ; present—. Messrs.!. iSurgess (chairman), Bnist, Brown, Frasor, HollWay.-Langford ami Pentecost.' Mr A. Peebles, secretary of the ifoss School Committee, was present as a. visitor. The Education Board wrote stilting: that Misses Gweu Hooper, Muriel Brewins and M. H. Sparrow hud been appointed pupil teachers and Miss Ilhoda. EHmers probationer. The hoard also statojl that it was unable to substitute an assistant mistress in place of tu '° pupil teachers for Richmond. Tlie head master's report showed the roll number to he 740, with ■in average attendance of 690. Sixtynine scholars had left, and sixtyseven new children had boon admitted. The Picnic Committee reported I hat arrangements bad been made for the annual picnic. It was resolved to write to Messrs Jones and Son and Mr G W Russell thanking tlierh tor their gifts of medals for the prize funds. It was resolved to protest against the Kducation Board curtailing tho privileges of the committee with reference to the appointment of teacher.-.
