THE FISHING SEASON.
OPEN ON THURSDAY. Tho fishing season will open on Thursday, October 1, and the prospects for a good season aro decidedly favourable. A member of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society stated yesterday that, providod rain fell within the next few days, the season should prove the most successful for very many years. The Society has been exceptionally busy this year in the matter of stocking rivers and lakes; indeed, the figures must prove a record. In the first place, it was very successful in obtaining ova, then its young stock did well, and besides that, it was able to liberate many thousands of virile young trout. In all 20,000 rainbow trout wore liberated in Hawdon Lake, and this week 20,000 will bo liberated in Lake Marymere. Naturally, with tho long spell of dry weather one or two streams are a little low, but given a good fall of rain the fishing streams and rivers should be in fine order by Thursday. Tho outlook, as one enthusiast put is, “ is uncommonly good.”
