MARKET REPORTS.

TEMUKA. There was an improvement in the yarding of fat sheep at the Temuka stock sale on Tuesday, and a good demand; especially in the earlier ■ part of the sale. The supply was slightly in excess of requirements, and towards toe close of the sale prices dropped. A total of 743 sheep were offered, of which 222 were fat wethers, 178 fat ewes, 47 fat hoggets and 296 stores. The passings numbered 132. In the fat pens a line of wethers, sold on behalf of Mr Donald Grant, of Winchester, to Mr A. F. Bennets, topped the market with 29s 6d. Another line sold on be- ’ half of the same vendor realised 27s 9d. Ewes sold well, the highest price being 25s for a small lot of five. Hoggets were unsaleable, and none offered found a buyer at auction. Stores were rather hard to quit, with the exception of forward wethers, which brought 17s 3d. There was the usual yarding of cattle, and for good beef there was keen competition in bidding. Pigswero again in ample supply, and prices were on a par with late sales. Wethers: 13 at 23s 6d, 4 at 16s, 11 at 21s, 14 at 19s Id, 9,at 29s 6d, 21 at 27s 9d, 21 at 225, 11 at 20s 9d, 29 at 20s Id, 29 at 11s 9d; 16 at 24s 6d, 1 at 23s 3d and 6at 255. Store pens—4o forward wethers at 17s 3d, ISB owes and lambs at 10s Id and 56 forward wethers at 17s 3d. Cattle.—Fat pens—Cows £3, £8 10s and £lO 10s; heifers £4, £5 10s, £5 15s, £8 os, £lO 10s and. £l3 los; steers £9 7s 6d, £lO, £lO 10s, £ll los and £ls 15s. Stores—Yearling steers £2 14s, yearling heifers £1 8s 6d, heifers £5 3s and £5 ss. Dairy stock—Cow and calf £6 os, do £8 17s 6d, heifer in calf £S 15s, heifer in profit £5 12s 6d, springing cow a. 10s, heifer in calf to Jersey bull £3,105, do £4 Is, do £4 12s 6d, cows in calf £5 10s. This was a small yarding, and as freezing buyers were operating keenly and as butchers’ supplies here exhausted competition was extremely keen, and ox beef was selling at 43s to 46s per 1001 b. Several pens of extra heavy bullocks were yarded, and one pen ss. while others brought £’24, £22 and £2l per head. Included in the yarding were a number of cattle of only average quality. Extra heavy bullocks £22 to £26 ss, heavy £l6 to £l9, medium £l2 10s to £l4, others £lO 10s to £ll 10s, prime cows and heifers £l2 to £l4, medium to good £lO to £lllos, others £7 os to £9. Fat sheep—2967 were penned. This large yarding contained a good proportion of heavy wethers. Export buyers were again operating and. suitable weights sold well up to last week’s prices, .but heavy sheep were inclined to be a shade easier: Prime wethers 27s 6d to 31s, extra heavy to 60s, medium 23s to 25s 6d, best ewes 23s to 255, extra heavy to 38s, medium ewes 20s to 21s, light and inferior los to , 17s 6d. Fat lambs—Eleven of the new season’s lambs were yarded and sold up to 275. Pigs—7o fat pigs and 163 stores were yarded, and sold at about the same prices as these of last week. SKIN SALE.. The following prices ruled at the Canterbury By-Products Company’s Weekly 6kin 6a le at Sockburn on Tuesday :—Half-bred 5s 6d to 7s 3d, three-quarter-bred 5s 5d to 7s 4d, cross-bred 5s 7a to 7s lid, and merino 5s Id to 6s 4d.
