In reporting this demonstration the "Adelaide Mail’ of January ±7 wrote as lOilows: “ A large number of aged and middle-aged men and women ascended the platform, tome of whom had to be assisted up, and others got there feebly with the aid of sticks. S-me nerd up arms in plaintive fashion, and quite a number exhibited bandages upon their wrists. One white-beard hobbled along the platform, assiste'a by a couple of sticks. Ihe first case was that of an aged man of Gleri OBmond, who had been suffering for nine years from Sciatica. A rheumatic patient for three months was also broug'ffc alongside him. The latter could not raise his arm more than a few inches. A man with Rheumatio Gout in the hand, who oould not close his fist, completed the first trio. Professor Wright, a nurse, and an attendant then set the machines to work. "The three men submitted quietly to the operations of the machine for over fivo minutes, taking the whole matter with that seriousness which the fame of the Veedoe merited. The old gentleman who could not raise his hand was then able to raise it up to his head, and the man with Rheumatic Gout could open and shut his hand without trouble at all. The crowd loudly applauded as the patients demonstrated what good effects had been achieved. The old man who harboured Sciatica for nine years walked about the stage without sticks, and bowed his acknowledgments to the crowd. Professor vVright then tried a sciatic patient oi ii years’ Standing, and another patient who coffered from Rhoumatio Gout. The latter was a bad oase. He had had 20 years of it, and the chairman pointed out that perhaps it would be difficult to treat the case. They would do their best. Meautime, operations were suspended while a man deaf in the l.ft ear was Bpoken to, and obviously could not hear what wa3 boing said. The nurse applied the vibrator to his ear vigorously, operations were resumed, on the other two, and the crowd, by this timo very deeply interested, watched the process very clceely indeed. The sciatic patient, whoso record o£ nin was IS ve.irs. soon oribwfd niip>bveineand delighted the audience by vigorously waving his arms. Prior to the application of the machine he could hardly move them at all. They then set to work on his legs. The deaf man then claimed attention again, and could hear much better whan questions were put to him. Tho Sciatica man (18 years’ standing) did a semi-tango and informed the audience that he had not walked bk: that for five years. The 20 years’ case man said he was very satisfied indeed with the t rosult of the treatment. “ A prominent manufacturer (sciatica for i five vears), and another half-deaf man. and a sufferer from Rheumatism on the knee for I three years were the next trio. Tho maI chines wore , set in motion again, while, amazed at the evident results achieved, the sick and the halt hobbled U"> to the platform from all parts of the crowded building. ‘‘At this stago our representative wus comoelled to leave the interesting scene, as i‘ was impossible to deal with more cases be | fore going to press.’’—Extract ” Adelaide Mail,” Saturday, January 17, 1314.
