THE OPEN-AIR HOME PROPOSAL. ' MEETING AT RICCARTON. A meeting in the interests of tho • Open-air Homo for Children Fund was held in Lower Riccarton yesterday af- ’ ternoon, at the residence of tho Mayor r of tho borough, Mr J. T. Brown. There •» ■ was a fair attendance. | Dr Fenwick outlined the object of the movement, and Sister Rochfort also spoke regarding the ways and - I means of providing the Home. She v said the actual help of the residents in ? ! the different localities was what was < | required, and she appealed to the j ladies present for their assistance. Committees j had been formed, and in his own dis- : trict, New Brighton, he was pleased 1 to sav they boa met with a good re- t ception. He moved that the ladies who ‘ wero present should form themselves’ into a committee, with power to add 1 to their number. Tho Mayor said he thought the suggestion a good one, and in apologising \ tor tho absence of Mrs A. Boyle, said ■ that eho had informed him she was in i thorough sympathy with the move- j ment. The following committee was propos- ; ed • to work the borough, with power to call in assistance:—Mcsdames Gour- ! : lay, Keys, Maxwell, W. T. D. Harman, ; Trevor Foster, Boyle, Deans, Harris, Gould, Brown and Rolleston. The ' Mayor was elected president of tho ‘ committee. ’■ Air Brown was also thanked for the i use of his residence and for the help •; he had already given to the. movement. : j MEETING AT NEW BRIGHTON. Winny), i presided, and twenty-one members were present. rj A report received from collectors ; showed that the amount collected to j ■ date was £27 17s 3d. j

■ On the motion of Mr W. H. Graham ! a resolution of appreciation of the ! Hon R. H. Rhodes’s gift of £IOO to the General Committee, and Mr G. D. Greenwood’s offer of land at Amberley, if suitable for tho requirements of the object, was carried unanimously. Tho names of Mi’s C. H. Opie, Miss Musgrave, and Messrs Maurice, Hamber and Musgrave were added to the General Committee. Mr E. Tillyshort was appointed chairman of the Entertainments Committee. On the niotion of Mr Graham it was resolved to ask the Entertainment Committee to report progress at tho next meeting. Mr Hnmber’s suggestion, that the “Barnstormers” should bo approached to givo a concert at New Brighton was approved. It was decided to hold a subscription dance in the Pier Hall, and tho ladies of tho committee were appointed .to make arrangements, Mr G. W. Bishop being appointed chairman.

After _ the business had concluded, tho ladies’ Dance Committee met and resolved to hold the dance at the end of June, in the Pier Hall, The price of tickets and arrangements regarding refreshments were held over for consideration till the next meeting.
