CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. MATCHES AT ASHBURTON. ) For the first Canterbury Miniature Rifle j Shooting Championship Meeting, which was held by the Ashburton Association last ; year, tho entries exceeded all expectations, \ a:;d tho affair was so successful that the j Association has decided to mako it an annual fixturo, and tho second meeting waa held on the Ashburton range yesterday. The meeting was divided into two sections, a teams championship class and an individual championship class, and, in addition, a scries of sweepstakes was held. The entries this year easily outnumbered those of last year, cad numbered 235 for the nidi* vidual championship, and' 47 teams, as against 150 individuals and 89 teams last year. Additional interest was given by the . entry of five ladies' teams. The teams con- j sis ted of five men each team, and twenty* ' five niinutea were allowed, individual mem- t bers being allowed five minutes. Great \ interest was taken in the meeting, and, ' i addition to the competitors, many spectators were present.
