AN ARREST AT PORTSMOUTH. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, June 2. Samuel Maddick, an electrical fitter in the Portsmouth Dockyard, was charged with espionage. The detective said that when arrested the accused admitted that he was shortly going to Ostend to meet the agent of a foreign Power, but denied that he possessed any secret information. Mackenzie, a Johannesburg builder, was arrested on a charge of. espionage near Dortmund, but was immediately released. Tho gendarme explained that he arrested Mackenzie, suspecting him of espionage, because ho was a Briton.
