At the ; bp-ning there was a small attendance, but it improved later. At the beginning the sale for lambs was blow, prices being below those ruling at earlier sales, the sale being a little dragging, ] mv . ever, was only momentary, an improvement being soon noticeable, and at the close tbo prices were quite equal to those ruling a week earlier. The few lots of wethers on offer wero mostly forward sorts, and sold well at unchanged prices and. the same remarks apply to ewes' which sold at satisfactory prices. Tho grain and produce market continues to be extremely quiet, and little or no business is being transacted. Tho.prices for wheat remain unaltered, the current prices being 3s 7d to 3s 8d for Tuscan, 3s 8d to 3s 9d for Hunter's and 3s 9d to 3s lOd for Pearl. Millers are well stocked, and I are making no extensive purchases at present. In the oat market tho supplies of first grade Gartons, the only class for which there is any demand, are still very small, and consequently very little business is being done in oats at all. A further slight drop in the prico of potatoes is reported, the value .being now quoted at 555, but the volume of businoss is riot large at that figure. There was a moderate attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashburton Yards yesterday, and the entry was a small cue. The yarding comprised 2031 sheep and lambs as compared with 8939 the previous week at the Tinwald Yards, and included 281 fat ewes, 260 fat wethers, 423 fat lambs and 1117 stores. The shortage was amongst the ewes and lambs iu the fat pens. The quality of the sheep and lambs yarded in the fat pans was very indifferent, and several lines went to graziers for fattening purposes. Frees- . ing buyers were again well represented, but with the small yarding and the high price'expected by vendors for inferior quality, very little business was done, and many lines were passed at auction. Fat ewes made up to 18s ' 2d, fat wethers to 21s 2d, and fat lambs to 20s 6d. Tho following range of prices was obtained:—Butchers prime ewes 16s 6d to 18s 2d, medium 15s 6d to 16s 3d, lightweights 13s 6d to 14s lid; butchers' prime wethers 19s to 21s 2d, others 18s to 18s 9d; prime freezer lambs 18s to 20s 6d, others 15s 6d to 17s 3d.
