The Board of Health returns show that the birth rate is unsatisfactory, being 8 per cent below the average for the previous five years. NOT SERIOUSLY DAMAGED. SYDNEY, June 2. The Waipara, which went ashore on a reef, has been berthed at Cairns. She does not appear to have been seriously damaged. MANSLAUGHTER. SYDNEY, June 2. John Stenhouse was sentenced to fifteen years' penal servitude for tho manslaughter of his wife at Parramatta during a quarrel on Good Friday. While under tho influence of liquor ho struck her several blows on the head with a hammer.
