ST PAUL'S CHURCH.

- CALL TO RET .7. FATERSONSUSTAINED BY PRESBYTERY, At a. pro re nata meeting of the Christ-church Presbytery yesterday afternoon, Dr Erwin placed on the table a call to the Rev J. Paterson, of Chalmers Church, Redfern, Sydney, who visited Christchurch a, short time ago, and took part in the services connected with the jubilee of St Paul's Church in April. Dr Erwin said that on tho roll of the church there were 546 names. The call bore 333 signatures and it had the concurrence of seventyfour adherents. Twenty members of tho congregation were absent from New and it was known that twelve of them favoured the call to Mr Paterson. Besides that, thero were some members who were ill and to whom it was impossible to submit the call. Mr P. Hercus, who stated that he represented the opinion of the Kirk Session, spoko of Mr Paterson's fitness for the position. He said that Mr Paterson was a supporter of tho nolicense and Bible in schools movements, an able preacher, and a zealous worker in social reform. Mr A. S. Bruce said that if Mr Paterson accepted the call he would make his influence for good felt in churchIt was decided, on the motion of Dr Erwin. seconded by tho R.ev F. Rule, that tho call should be sustained and be transmitted, with reasons of translation, to tho clerk of the Sydney Presbytery. The Rev J. Mackenzie (Moderator) said that the circumstances in connection with the coll were very satisfactory. The ministers of Christchurch would welcome Mr Paterson as a colleague. They wished lo see Mm in their midst as soon as possible.
