MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. \ The General Committee of tho Asb» burton Agricultural and Pastoral Association met on Saturday afternoon. •Tho president, Mr,J. Cairns, '-vu »n the chair and tnere was a larga attendance. Mr J. M'Laughlan wrote, thanking tho Association for its letter of cmdol ence in his late bereavement. _ Mr E. C. Studholme, ono of thfl judges at the autumn show wrote suggesting that in future oiie judpe should be appointed for the cobs ponies and light horse seotions. Tt'4 writer also asked the committee to accept, as a donation to the Associations funds, £1 Is, which was paid a-j his expenses in attending the shew. ■, The president was appointed a delegate to represent the Association op the Central Committee in- connection m \t » £ anama Pacific Exposition. Mr R. B. Bennett, representative of Messrs H. Fitter and Soils, wrote in further reference to the'' prize of £5 6s offered by the firm for a pen of fat lambs by Down rams at the*late shnv. His firm was still of opinion that the conditions attnehed to the prizp had not been complied with, and therefor* tho prize could not be given. To prevent any great loss to the Association however, Mr Bennett offered personalis to donate £3 3s. The offer was accepted with thanks. Mr W. F. M. Buckley wrote, thankmg the Association for having nom:nated him as a member of tho Board of Agriculture, in place of the late Mr Macfarlane. A donation of £2 2s w.->3 made to the Ashburton Technical Clares Association. Mr L. Bowman, of the Agricultural Department, wrote, suggesting certain improvements in awarding prizes ir . the honey classes'at the next show The letter was referred to tho Pro duce Committee. ->■, ,- Satisfactory reports were read from the supervisors in the draught and light horse sections at the autumn show. «, ¥\ c D 'i. WoQtJ » a Past president, on behalf of the Association, presented i . Druwinond with a bound volume of the catalogue of the autumn / snow, as a memento of Mr Drummond's year of office as president. Mi Wood spoke in terms of hieh praise of the manner in which Mr Drummend had carried out his duties during his year of office. Mr Drummond suitably replied. Mr T. Taylor, chairman of tho Ploughing Match Committee, reported that two suitable paddocks for the match had bsen placed at the disposal of the committee by Messrs Nieoll Bros. It was a most suitable qrot and was conveniently situated, near the Ashburton Racecourse.
