The Sphinx Club gavo a banquet in honour of Sir Ger:ry,'j Reid and the Duke of GV;timing:it. Sir George Bold said that Australia had nover played a larger part in the development of the Empire than during tho nnst twenty or thirty years. He hoped that nil races in the Empire would develop the higher qualities, and that every part would become qualified to take its share in Imperial affairs, but any such attempt at present would lead to chaos.
