ADDINGTON YARDS. ■toe METROPOLITAN MARKET. YESTERDAY’S SALE. The sale at Addington yesterday was conducted under cold and bleak conditions. The rain in the early morning left the roads and the yards in a fairly muddy stato, and generally speaking the whole surroundings were less pleasant than at the majority of the sales held during the last few months, when almost ideal weather invariably prevailed. There was again u full attendance and the yarding was u fairly full one for the season of the year. FAT CATTLE. Tlie entries in the fat cattle section compared unfavourably in point of numbers with those of the previous week, when there was a record entry, the yarding aggregating 337, against 557 the previous week, 31)7 on April 29, 315 on April 22, 271 on April 15, and 300 on April 8. In point of quality there was little difference from recent yardings, the entries including a number of cattle of a useful class, whilst on the other hand there were animals which should have been in the store pens, as obviously they could not be described as fat. Tho sale was irregular from the outset, prices varying markedly at different points, but the general average of prices showed no quotable change from the previous week, except for cow beef, which was weaker. Beef realised 2os to 28s 6d per 1001 b, according to quality. Quotations are:— Steers £7 10s to £ll. Extra steers to £l3 12s 6d. Heifers £5 7s 6d to £ll. Cows £5 to £9 10s. The following were amongst the sales:—Client. 1 heifer at £11; N. R. Wilson (Staveley), 2 cows-at £5 and £5 15s; clients, 1 cow at £8 17s Od, 3 cows to £7 2s od; T. Hassall, sen. There was an ordinary entry of fat calves and an unchanged demand, re- ' presentativo (prices ranging from 8s to • 60s. STORE CATTLE. Store cattle came forward in medium numbers, the yarding consisting principally of three-year steers and cows, many of the latter being indifferent specimens. The demand was fairly keen up to a certain point, but price's in many instances failed to ' reach owners' expectations, and the result Mas that the passings were fairly heavy. Quotations are:— Two-year steers £4 5s to £4 10s (the latter being passed). Two-year heifers £3 17s 6d. Three-year steers (a line of 57) £6 2s (passed). Cows £2 to £4 9s. Holstein cows (from south) £6 2s. j Two-year Holstein heifers £4 15s. ]

DAIRY COWS. The bulk of a medium entry of dairy cows were animals of indifferent quality.- good cows being the exception and not tho rule. For the best sorts thero . was freo competition, but inferior sorts were not in request. Representative prices ranged from £3 2s 6d to £ll. FAT SHEEP. The yarding of fat sheep was smaller than that of tho previous week, the entries again occupying ten races, but these were not nearly so well filled as at the sale held a woek earlier. Ewes again formed tho bulk of the yarding, and all classes wero represented, although well-finished sheep predomi-1 nated. The sale was a satisfactory I one in every respect, competition for ail descriptions being animated. Wethers wero in better demand than at the sale held a week earlier, while in tho case of ewes there was a marked improvement compared with the somewhat dragging sale of May 6. Tho market was easier at the close, especially for ewes. The range of prices was:— Extra prime wethers to 28s 3d. Prime wethers 21s!>id to 2fis. Other wethers 15s. 7d to 215." Merino wethers 15s 3d to 22s 9d. Extra prime ewes to 255. Prime ewes 17s 6d to 225. Medium ewes 14s 6d to 17s. Aged and light ewes 12s to 14s. The principal sales were:— Wethers.—For W. There was an entry of 7981 fat lambs, and so far as quality is concerned it was considerably above the average of the sales for somo time past. There were a number of very largo and well finished lines and many of- the lots were well woolled. Tho competition was brisk among tho export buyers, who operated rreely in consequence of tho firmer market at Homo and the prospects of the sup-, plies of fat lambs now falling off. Light weight lambs sold especially well, going as high as 6sd per lb oyer all, tho average for the whole yarding being fully 6sd per lb. There was thus a marked rise compared with the pievious week and tho ?-aie was geneially considered the best of the season. Tho range of prices per head was:— Tegs 20s to233#d.
