CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.

LYTTELTON WESLEYAX CHURCH.

The annual chrysanthemum show, inaugurated some vears ago by enthusiasts amongst the .congregation of the Wesleyan Church, Lyttelton, was opened in the Oddfellows Hall, Lyttelton, yesterday afternoon, tho attendance of the public being large. The show was divided into five classes, decorative (2), decorative (judged by popular vote), domestic and competitions for school children. As a whole the exhibits were decidedly satisfactory. Mr W. Bayliss, of Christchurch, also had a special exhibit in tho show. The entries in all classes wore large; To augment the funds of the church there were a number of novelty and fancy work stalls, and throughout the afternoon and evening there was no dearth of patrons. The Rev A. Mitchell, prior to introducingMr J. M'Combs, M.P., and asking him to open the shew, said he desired to heartily congratulate the exhibitors on their fine showing. There were many who looked at the results from the monetary point of view only, but as far as the speaker was concerned he was as much interested in developing enthusiasm in flower culture. He regretted that through illness the Mr J. B>. Webb, was not able to be present. Mr J. M'Combs, M.P., congratulated the church members on their fine display. Ak though the speaker was not a member of that particular church body, he said he was pleased to state that as far as the prohibition movement was .concerned, the Wesleyan Church members, including tho Rev A. Mitchell, had always done their best to further the movement. He declared the show open, and trusted that it would be a success'financially. (Applause.) The following were stallholders: —Work stall, Mcsdames Pitcaithly, M'Auliffe, Norton, Hildyard, Radcliffe and W. E. Cook, and Misses Wilson and Allwer; produce stall, Messrs J. R. AVebb, W. E. Cook, W. Foster, J. Page, Boyd. J. Pitcaithly, J. T. Norton, W. Brown, J. S. Olliver and Shadbolt; kitchen stall, Mesdames D. Miller and M'Cormack; refreshment room, Miss Carter, and Mesdames Huston, Carter. Stewart and Anderson; pot plants and buttonholes—Misses Smith,and E. M'Auliffe; sweets stall—Misses Symonds (2), Scorgie, Jory and Williams; bran tub—senior girls; handkerchief and tie stall —Misses Norton and D. Wilson; novelty stall—Bible Class girls; fancywork stall—Miss E. M'AAulffe and Mrs Lanyon; chairman of committee —Rev A. Mitchell.
