HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Christchurch High School Old Boys' Association was held in tho big schoolroom, at the Boys' High School, last evening, Mr G. Scott presiding over an attendance of about twenty-five members. The committee's annual report stated

that since last annual meeting fiftyeight members had joined the Association and seven had ceased to be members, the membership now standing at 445. The events of the past year were detailed, and reference was made to the retirement of Mr B. K. S. Lawrence, who had been a master in the school since its foundation. A presentation had been made to Mr Lawrence by the Association.

The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £l3O 10s lid, an expenditure of £llß 4s, and a credit balance of £l2 6s lid.

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said it was a regrettable fact that out of 445 members only 279 had paid their subscriptions for the year just passed. Ho hoped for an improvement in this direction in the current year. In seconding the motion, Mr J. Ri. Cuningham said that strenuous efforts had been made to collect outstanding subscriptions. He suggested that in future each member of the committee should undertake the collection of a share of the subscriptions. Mr G. Gray complained that the method of making financial grants to the football club was unbusinesslike.

The secretary of the football club had to go hat in hand to the secretary of the Association whenever money was needed. There should be a monthly statement of accounts, and a monthly cheque to the club. The balance-sheet did not disclose the position of affairs between the club and the Association.

Tlie chairman said he agreed that the matter should be put on a more businesslike basis.

Dr W. S. Seed suggested that in future tho "School Magazine" should not be sent to uniinancial members. He moved that it should be a recommendation to the incoming committee that a special committee should bo set up to devise means of collecting outstanding subscriptions. Tlie motion was carried, and it was decided to recommend that the committee should be a finance committee of three members, meeting monthly. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr C. E. BeavanBrown; president. Mr J. Tait; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs G. Scott, jun, T. W. Reese and J. P.. Cuningham ; committee Dr W. S. Seed, Dr A. J. Orchard and Messrs C. Buchanan and A. O. Ponder; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Dav; honorary auditor, Mr H. S. Cordery. A resolution congratulating Mr R. Speight on his appointment to the cpratorship of Canterbury Museum was carried amidst acclamation.

Tho incoming committee was recommended to decide upon the Association's colours or badge at an early date.
