While the Council of Port Melbourne was discussing a proposal for co-opera-tive Empire Day celebrations, the Mayor (Mr Page) declared that it was time that all tommyrot about Empire Day was wiped out. Continuing, he declared that it was his intention to entertain the children on the anniversary of the French Revolution, when the workers revolted against tyranny. He would explain to the children what that day meant.

Tho Council carried a resolution to the effect that the citizens would prefer to celebrate the occasion by the erection of a new school in a certain street to replace tho present pigstye.
