THE “JOHN BULL” CASES. DEFENDANTS CONVICTED. By Telegraph—Preen Association—^Copyright LONDON, May 11. Bottomley and Elias have been fined £25 apiece for publishing an article in “John Bull” in regard to lottery tickets. A message on May 5 said: —Horatio Bottomley and Julius Elias, representing the printers, have been summoned for an article in “ John Bull ” concerning schemes of tickets for lotteries to be run in Switzerland, oalled the “ Grand National Sweepstake” and the “John Bull Derby Sweep.” In each case a certain sura was promised to charities. Bottomley contended that the article constituted a legitimate newspaper, controversy.
