CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. COMMITTEE MEETING'’ . The committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met last evening; present—Messrs G. H. Mason (chairman), if. T. Evans, W. J. Morgan, S. F. Wilson, A. K. Baker, C. Evans, C. Hassell, E.. E. Crawshaw, A. M’Riiail, A. E. Byrne, F. ‘l>. lvesteven and C. Bpchanan. ■ ‘ Mr C. Buchanan was appointed delegate for the Union at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union, in place of Air F. T. Evans, who was unable to make the trip to Wellington. The Canterbury College Football Club wrote stating that it had- to alter the name of the club to the University Club. Tho alteration was agreed to. The Merivale and Sydenham Clubs wrote protesting against the conditions under which the ladies’ passes were issued by the Lancaster Park Board of Control in stipulating that the passes were Tor club matches only. The chairman explained that tho Boapd of Control had looked upon the matter both from the point of view of football and cricket. The cricketers got no concessions for ladies, and the representatives of football on the Board could not very well press for further concessions in view of that fact. It was decided to write to the Board of Control asking what sum it would charge for tho same privileges that were received last year, when the passes admitted to representative matches also. Permission was granted the High School Old Boys’ Club to play a match with tho Wellington College Old Bore’ Club on June 3. The Christchurch Domains Board wrote stating that permission could not be given clubs to cut tho grass on grounds, hut each individual case would be treated on its merits, Tho Canterbury Football Association wrote asking for the use of Lancaster Park on Jun 9 3 for the Brown Shield match. , It was decided to reply that the Canterbury Rugby Union seven-a-side tournament would be held on Lancaster Park on that date. The newly-formed Hurunui SubUnion wrote stating that it had decided to have as colours a black jersey with a white collar, and a white ram’s head on breast. The colours were agreed to. The secretary of the Merivale Club wrote stating that arrangements' were well in hand for the. benefit match for J. T. M. Pilri. The following programme had been decided upon:—2 p.m., Merivale Old Timers v. *old Timers of other clubs; 3 p.m., Merivale Seniors v. combined team of Maoris from Kaiapoi and Little River. The Buller Rugby Union wrote asking what guarantee would be given if a Buller representative team visited Canterbury during the season. It was decided to reply stating that the guarantee would be 60 per cent of the net gate, or £SO. Accounts amounting to £1 17s 7d were passed for payment.

AIEETING' OF CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE. * A meeting of the executive committee of the Canterbury Football Association was held at the Young Men’s Christian Association rooms last evening, Air R. English presiding. The Christchurch Domains Board wrote stating that improved drainage of the South Park was meditated, and it might be necessary for the Board to resume some of the playing grounds held by the Association. Notice would be given of intention to resume. The secretary (Air Ritson) said that the Board had no right to resume any grofinds under its agreement with the Association. It was decided to reply asking the Board, in the event of it becoming necessary to resume tho present grounds, what new grounds would be allotted to the Association. The New Zealand Football Association wrote stating that it had been decided that the Brown Shield matches held over from last season should be played in the order the challenges were received —Hawke’s Bay, Westland and Wanganui—the first game to be played not later than June 6. The Council did not propose to formulate any scheme for the insurance of players. It was decided to take steps to have tho Hawke’s Bay match played on King’s Birthday. The action of the secretary in negotiating for Lancaster Park for the match was approved. It was decided that a deputation of members of the executive should attend general meetings of the various clubs to explain the proposals for the purchase of a ground. The Nomads Club forwarded £2 10s and tho Linwood Club £5 18s 6d, collected for the ground scheme. The transfer of E. Campbell from the United to the Woolston Club was approved. Amendments of the Brown Shield rules were forwarded by the New Zealand Eoothall Association for approval. ' The principal amendments involved a slight alteration in tho allotment ol gate takings, and tho increase of the entrance fee from 10s to £l. .
