TO PREVENT WARS

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —Your correspondent “ Plain Truth.” “trots'* out the stale old argument that being prepared for war prevents wars. Now, most of the countries in the world have...been preparing for war for hundreds of years, and yet there have been wars for hundreds of years. Any man outside a lunatic asylum should know that if all the countrios in the world stopped proparing for war and laid down their arms thore would bo- no wars, and that the only .way to prevent wans is by .arbitration. “Plain Truth’’ 'asks why 'wo should not have compulsory training as well as compulsory education. Well, education is useful, but wars are useless—except for gun makers, warship builders and such folk.—l am, etc.. G.L.
