MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Rose Adelaide Lawrence, deceased, isas held at the offico of . the Official Assignee on Tuesday morning. Tho Official Assignee stated that there did not seem to be much prospect of getting anything out of the properties of the deceased. Mr Hunter, representing the administrator of the estate, Alfred Lawrence, said that no offers had yet been received for it. The Official Assignee stated that tho deceased had died intestate in September, 1913, aud administration had been taken out bv her husband, A. E. Lawrence. The position of the estate, as disclosed by an application to have it administered under , tho Bankruptcy Act, showed cash £2B 14s and real estate £llsO. The liabilities included unsecured creditors £391 os od and secured creditors £897. 16s Id, leaving a deficiency of £llO 7s '6dC (The. .freehold properties were situated in. Inchfield Street, and being in-poor repair all efforts to sell them had been unsuccessful. In the present state of repair it was a hard matter to turn the properties to satisfactory account, and the creditors’ prospects of getting anything out of them were very poor. A meeting of creditors in j;he estate of David Samuel Mumford, butcher, was called for Tuesday, before the Official Assignee, Mr G. A. Smyth, hut there was was not a quorum present. The bankrupt’s statements showed total debts £1.16 6s 4d, total assets £9O, deficiency £26 os 4d. The unsecured creditors to whom more than £5 was due were as follows:—M.unro and Hickenbottom £o ; lss, W. Spencer £ls, H. Voss £o 10s 3d, H. M.. Bull £l2 14s sd, H. The bankrupt was shown to have an interest in real estate consisting of a shop and two rooms in Gloucester Street valued by the Government at £4BO, and carrying a mortgage of £3OO.

In his sworn statement, tho bankrupt stated that he was thirty-four years of age, and had six children ranging : .n age from fifteen months to twelve years. Two years ago ho was solvent, and earned on an average at his trade £3 10s to £3 15s a week. He began to get behind with bis creditors, ns his wife caused considerable expense owing to illness. Ho had no means but his wages, and had no revenue from, freehold property in which he liad an interest. Fifteen months ago he was ill, and lost two mouths’ wages, and his children also were ill. His furniture was not worth more than £25. The title of the freehold property was held jointly by bankrupt and his brother, F. Altimford, who occupied it, paying as rent the instalments of 12s 6d a week due on.the purchase. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
