SPREYDON. The Spreydon Borough Council met > last evening; present—the Mayor fMr G. R. Whiting), and Councillors W>T H. Winsor, T. Woods, S. A. Hancock f E. H. Clark, D. Sykes and E. Hayes, \ The Mayor, in his statement, made reference to the public meetings recently held in the borough in connection with the Council’s proposals concerning the drainage system, and stated that the loan work was progressing satisfactorily, all the channelling being completed with the exception of Stourbridge Street on one side. th© asphalt gang was also doing good work, and all except River Road would be completed in about a month s time. The Works Committee recommended that tenders should he called for vhe construction of the Rose Street Bridge and the formation of River Road; that £l5O should be placed on the estimates for diverting storm water down Barrington Street, southward from Rose Street; that the City Council should be written to, accepting its offer of £59 for work in Strickland Street, and pointing out that the terms of the letter did not coincide with the committee’s agreement with' Mr Dobson in the matter; and that the City Council should be asked to supply an estimate for maintaining Strickland Street in order from Redruth Avenue to Colombo Street'. The report was adopted with the - exception of the clause providing for the placing of £l5O on the estimates for diverting storm water in Barrington Street. The financial statement showed the receipts on the district fund account to have been £313 15s 3d, making a credit balance of £24 3s lOd. The. loan account was shown to be in credit to the amount of £1392 15s lid. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: District fund account £l3O Is 2d and loan account £282 18s 5d.. ... . The Mayor and . Councillor Winsor presented a report on the business transacted at the recent conference .of local bodies relative to thef supply of electricity from Lake Coleridge. A long discussion took place on the report, the general opinion being favourable to a Greater Ghristchuron' sefrenio, The City Council wrote, stating that the city surveyor had beeii instructed to' report on -the question of South Crescent Road and on that being done the Spreydon-Council would be communicated with.; ■ ' V' ' i • ' The Hnlswell -County Council wrote, stating that it would-agree to pay half the host of electing the bridge over the Heathcote at the 'Spreydon-Hals-well boundary. The letter was' received. The Hastings Fire Board wrote, offering for sale a Shand-Mason steam fire engine with all accessories,, and capable of pumping 650 gallons, per minute, at a cost, of £650, the original cost being £llsO. The letter was ; received.
