HONORARY TERRITORIALS

[From Our Correspondent.] ASHBURTON, August 22

A largely attended representative meeting was held in the Ashburton Masonic Hall last evening for the purpose of forming a branch of tho Hon-, orary Territorial Association. Mr C. J. Harper, chairman of the County Council, was* voted to the chair. After several speakers had explained the objects of such an association, Mr C. W. Nicoll moved, and Mr G. W. Hillier seconded, that in order to show a practical interest in, ana approval of, tho defence forces of the dominion, an association bo formed to be named the Ashburt-on Honorary Territorial Association.

Tho motion was carried unanimously. Officers wore then appointed as follows: —President, Mr C. J. Harper; vice-presidents, the Very Rev Dean O’Donnell, Revs J. R. Burgin, W. J. Elliott, and J. Jngs, Messrs W. Nosworthy, M.P., and John Studholmo; committee, Captain A. A. Fooks, Messrs W. G. Roberts, W. G. Hillior, C. W. Nicoll, E. F. Nicoll, J. T. Thomas, W. S. Sparrow, R. Clark, F. ltobilliard, R. J. Collins, and F. Ferriman. Over 'seventy of those present signed their names as members, and Mr C. J. Nicoll expressed a liopo that this number would bo increased to at least 200 in a very short time.
