CRICKET.

OTAGO v. CANTERBURY.

The Canterbury team is practising hard in view of its approaching match with Otago for possession of the Plunket Shield. Otago has a very good team, and it is practically certain that the match will bo a hard-fought ore. The wicket will be more or less of the kind that Otago players are accustomed to, and should make the bowling of Downea very formidable. The local batsmen, however, are all in good form at the nets, and the good scores they have" been registering for their respective clubs show they are ready to do their province justice. J. Bennett, who, owing to a slight injury, was unable to play in the last club match, is now able to take his place at the nets, and will play in the coming match. Tho wicket is very good, though a trifle slow, and good scores may be looked forward to on both sides. With such batsmen as Tuckwell, Hopkins, Austin, M'Farlane, and Ramsden iplaying for Otago, and Lusk, Pattrick, Reese, Hayes, Paterson, Hickmott, Sandman, and Bishop in the Canterbury ranks, the game, weather permitting, should be an excellent one.
