Mr Dixon in an interview said that ho believed they had a sporting chance of recovering the cup, though much depended on Brookes’s form. Beamish and Park will probably play in the doubles. AVONSIDE CLUB. Tho annual mooting of tho Avonside Tennis Club was held on Thursday night, Mr H. Wood in the chair, lliero was a fair attendance of members. . The annunl report, which was adopted, set out that tho membership was increasing steadily, forty-six new members having been electod during the year, there being now 150 members. The'courts wero reported to bo in excellent order and second to none in New Zealand. The club’s B team had won the Second Grade Competition. The committee reported that the standard oi play had unproved considerably, particularly in the men s junior class. , , Tho treasurer’s report, which was adopted, showed that tho finances of the club were in cr. excellent state. There was not one account outstanding. Tho receipts for the year had totalled £253 9s 4d (including a balance brought forward of £3l 10s 7d). and tho expenditure to £3-13 Its 6d, leaving a balance in hand of £23 Its lCd. The principal items aero:—Subscriptions £IC2 2s Cd, and levy on new court £27 2s Gd. Homs of expenditure included costs of asphalting £HO. fencing £2? 13 n Gd. interest on mortgage and «©• benlures £2l 14s. and trophies £25 2s, the latter including troubles for two seasons.
