A private cable message announces the election of Mr Robert Wvnn-Wil-liams, solicitor, a native of Auckland, as one of the members for Charters Towers in the Queensland Parliament. The Prime Minister motored yesterday from Palmerston to Fairlie, arriving at the latter, place at 7.15. The Minister and party were entertained at dinner at the Gladstone Hotel as guests of the Mackenzie County Council, after which Mr Mackenzie received deputations and then attended a com--plimentnrv social tendered to the Hon T. Buxton, by the people of Fairlie. To-day the Prime Minister will leave Timarti by the first express for Christchurch.

A cablegram has just been received in Christchurch by Bishop Grimes bearing the news of the death of a well known priest, the Rev. Augustine Ginisty, Rectxir of St Patrick’s Church', Sydney. Father Ginisty, who died on Wednesday, was a well-known Alarist Father, one Gf the missionaries, and had a wide circle of friends among the bishops and priests of New Zealand. He was a man remarkable for his hospitality and few visiting priests failed to make his acquaintance. The Surveyor-General (Air James Alackenzie) arrived from Wellington yesterday, accompanied by the Government Astronomer (Mr O. E. Adams). They will go by the Warrimoo to Alelbounie to attend a. Federal Conference of Surveyors-General, when many important professional matters will be discussed. The Conference will open in Alelbourne on May 20, and will then adjourn to the Federal Capital. Air Alackenzie went to Dunedin by the express yesterday, and will attend to Departmental business in the southern city to-day.
