THE UNITY SCHEME.

TO THE EDITOR. - Sir,—An an old labourite the -writer, would rather heal any breaches in .labour’s ranks than open new ones. Professor Mills’s scheme looks well on paper, but experience teaches that' oil and water will not mix, and to talk about lawyers, doctors and capitalists joining hands with labour is just moonshine, as after two thousand years of Christianity, self-interest and the. love of greed, are just as rampant as they were in B.C. 1000. Alany journalists and other writers claim that the workers are 100 per cent better off. than the toilers or fiftv years ago. Yes', and the toilers of to-day want to be 1000 per cent better off than they are at present. Let the. capitalists take warning, talk less about their rights, and more of tho rights of labour. The coming revolution will be fought with political weapons, but before it is over it will shake tho industrial world to its foundation. Opportunity makes the thief, lienee capitalists’ fat bank accounts. Tho Unity scheme aims at the impossible,' but Socialism aims at .the nationalisation of all that is needed for man’s benefit. Now one must labour for the benefit of others or else starve; therefore Socialism and Reason urges all toilers to widen their horizon of economic conceptions before they can expect any permanent good,' They must study how to carry out the great in- v dustirial enterprise free from the shekels of capitalistic Jim CroWs or professorial gentlemen, who are noted for quaint phraseology and classical diction, -which proves tnat he from Milwaukee is fond of words—all words "and no deeds. The toilers. to gain their just rights must employ themselves.—l am, etc., KEREI.
