MEETING OF LOCAL COAIMITTEE. Tli • committee of the Christchurch branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met last night; present:—Air T. C. Field (in tho chair). Mrs Cross, Aliss Morrow, Dr C. J. Russell, and Messrs J. Spiller D. B. APLaren, AV. H. Trusttum and AV. H. Zouch (inspector). Tho resignation of Air R. 0. Blank from tho committee, consequent on his jemoval from Christchurch, was accepted with regret. A donation of £SO from Airs Town end was received, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the donor. It was decided to write asking the Minister of Internal Affairs to amend the law relating to the use of rifles of a smaller calibre than .303 in the direction of allowing confiscation of such weapons it found in possession of a hoy. . The inspector reported that during the month ending April 30, lie had issued three cautious for ill-treating horses, and had destroyed four horses. Four complaints had been investigated. Three horses and ten dogs had been admitted to the Animals’ Home. He recommended that any qualified veterinary surgeon should be allowed to lease two stalls or dog-boxes at the homo for a term to be fixed by tho committee. The report was adopted. The treasurer’s statement for the month showed a debit balance of £2l 11s 3d.
