ASHLEY. Tim Ashlev Conntv Council met at LobUni on Thursday"; present Messrs W Mackintosh (in the chair), Croft, Elisor, P. Hiatt.O'Halloran, Parish and Philpolt.lt was decided to call a meeting of contributing bodies to consider matters relating to the Ashley traffic bridge, Members arranged, to meet at an early date and inspect the Ashley Gorge Koad. and decide what work was reonired there- Mr Hugh Elisor was appointed to attend the meeting for the election of delegates to the Local Government Conference at Wellington. Mr A. Feary wrote calling the attention of the Council to the bad stato of the read to his place, and suggesting improvements. It was resolved to ask Mr Feary for an offer for carrying out tho work needed. The clerk presented the balance-sheet to March 31. It was resolved to print and circulate it so soon ps audited, nnd to ask Mr R. M'ln'tosh, chairman of the late Road B-rard. to supplement it with a report. The Council held a special meeting to consider tho advisability of paying interest and principal of tho bridge loan out of tho general fund. It was decided that the special rate struck should be levied this year. aW accordingly no resolution was required. M'Litcsh asked for consideration of certain drains along; Fisher's Road, but the Council could not see its way to alter existing arrangements. A tender was opened, for the Hayland-White Rock Road drain, but it was decided to call for fresh tenders. The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for a groyne at the Okuku Protective Works. Tlie clerk reported on the recent trial of tho crusher, and the Council, after fu'l discussion, resolved that the boulder heaps granted by Mr R. M Intosh should bo crushed for use on the lowlying portion of Fisher's Road, and that tenders should be called for tho supp'.y of power and for carting. Further works wero postponed, pending tho declaration of main roads by special order at the next meeting. The clerk, was instructed to keep in touch with the Public "Works LVnarttneiit with regard to the roads to Lees Valley.
