It is calculated that the British people spent about £25,000,000 last year for amusements. In 1873 they spent lass than £4,000,000. Millions of capital is invested in English theatres, and something like four thousand persons are supported by the business. There aro sixty-seven theatres in London, and 768 in the provinces. This does not include 311 music halls.
