BOROUGH COUNCILS.

TEMUKA

The adjourned meeting of the I Temuka thorough Council was held on Fridav evening; present: —The Mayor (Colonel J. T. M. Hayhurst), Councillors M'lnnes, Frew, Curtis, Lashlie, Evans, Bell and Ellis: Referring to tho recommendation of tho Finance Committee that the general rate should be reduced by a farthing in the pound, the Mayor said that it would be better not to make any reduction, but pass a resolution that the special rate on the water loan should not be collected. The chairman of the finance committeo said that the Committee favoured the Mayor's suggestion. The estimates were passed, and it was decided that the special, rate for the water supply loon should not bo collected for tho year. The Mayor's honorarium was fixed at £25. Tho following committees were appointed :—Finance—Councillors Evans, Maling and Bell; lighting--Councillors Lashlie, Norton and M'lnnes ; sanitation—Councillors Curtis, Frew and Maling; works—Councillors M'lnnes, Ellis, Lashlie and Norton; building—Councillors Frew, Bell and Lashlie; waterworks—Councillors Ellis, Frew and M'lnnes; by-laws—Council-lors M'lnnes, Bell and Curtis; reserves Councillors Evans, Curtis, Norton and Ellis. A lengthy discussion took place regarding the Denmark Street crossing, and it was decided to apply to the Railway Department to put, in a new crossing as a continuation of Dyson Street, and to proceed with tho proposed Conimorco Street, crossing,.and

road, tho Council undertaking to contribute £325 towards the expenditure. It was decided to levy a general rate of IJd in the pound, and a sanitation rate of three-oighth.s of a penny in the pound for the sanitation area. A meeting of tho Council will be held on May 21 to strike the.rates.
