ELLESMERE. A monthly mooting of the Ellesmero Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Leeston on Friday a ftornoon, Mr John Cunningham (president) presiding over a good attendance of members. The Prinio Minister wrote, thanking the Association for inviting him to attend tho next annual show. If it were at all possiblo for him to bo present, he would bo very happy to accept it, but as the date was so far ahead he was unable at present to say dellnitely whether or not ho could attend. 'The Minister of Agriculture acknowledged receipt of report and statement of accounts of tho Association for the year 1911. A letter was received from 'the Canterbury Association, asking whether tho Ellesmoro Association was in favour of the proposal to hold a provincial conference of agricultural and pastoral associations, for the discussion of matters of interest •to tho uastoral and agricultural industry. It-was decided to approve of the proposal, and tho president, vicepresident, and Mr J. Lochhead were appointed the Association's delegates to the conference, should it take place. Tho various sub-committees were elected. Several recommendations _ from tho annual meeting were considered. Mr Boag asked what had been dono regarding tho wheat-growing competition. The president said that tho judge. Mr 11. E. Alexander, had completed his work as far as possible, but the result could not bo made known until samples of the wheat had reached him. NORTHERN. Tho attendance at tho Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association's winter show was fairly good throughout the day yesterday, and the room was well filled iu the evening. Tho silver cup, given by tho president, Mr C. Leech, for the largest number of points scored in tho grain, seed, and root classes, was won by Mr J. Wyllie. Mr Leech also gave a cup for the largest prize-taker in the butter, fruit, and cookerv classes, and it was won by Mrs J. Borgfeldt, with 100 points. The prize for the highest number of points in grain and seeds went to Mr James Wyllie, and for the highest number of points in flowers, to Mrs F. Milner. In the sheep weight-guessing competition, Miss B. Watson and Messrs J. Fleming and W. Crothers each guopsed within a quarter of a pound of the correct weight, 791 b, and divided tho prize.
