RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.

PALMERSTON NORTH, May 3. Tlie North Island Railway Appeal Board sat to-day, Dr M'Arthur presiding. Mr O. W. Ryan represented the first division and Mr P.. Games the second. Mr, Mouat appeared for tho Department. Qharles Murphy appealed against his dismissal for alleged insubordination. Murphy was told by a coaching foreman to put a box on the) Foxton train. He refused because the box was not properly labelled or.excessed, which was contrary to the stationmaster's instructions. The coaching foreman considered that the box was properly labelled. Murphy denied the correctness of the evidence signed by. him at. the Departmental inquiry. *The chairman said that Murphy must have been a lunatic to sign anything without reading it first. . Judgment was reserved till tomorrow.
Walter Short appealed against his dismissal. He went from Wellington to Shannon on transfer, and when asked by a 1 foreman to sign oh he' refused to do so. It was alleged that he was nnder the influence of drink arid was "cheeky" to the goods agent.; Judgment was reserved.' • r Robert Lee appealed against the reduction of"--his-salary. 'The'appellant,' a signalman,' Tvas reduced; for goiiig to sleep while on duty in a signal-box at Palmerston, The appeal was dismissed without calling on the Department.
