OUR LOCAL INDUSTRIES.

WHO GETS THE BENEFIT?

You have heard a good deal this week about our local industries, and tho benefits to be derived from supporting them. The. cry is: " Support the country that supports you," and it is a sensible cry. But does it ever occur to you that, however much you may support local industries, you are not getting the benefit you should get, under the ordinary system of dealing? Hundreds of workers in this city—probably thousands—havo had a hand in making the goods which are so proudly displayed, yet how many trades are there in which those workers can buy, at first-hand, the goods they have helped to manufacture?

One of our largest industries is the clothing industry; it employs hundreds of workers in this city alone, and distributes thousands of pounds yearly in wages. Then why is it that clothing is dear? Just because it is loaded with too many profits before it reaches you—it passes through too many hands, and some of them are merely distributors (retailers), at your expense. Wo knocked that' method of dealing (as far i.s we ari: concerned) on the head long ago. We are manufacturers, employing a large staff of workers, and sell our goods direct to the public, from our warehouse. By doing this we save you the middleman's profit, and also the heavy shop expenses. We offer the finest clothing value in New Zealand, and defy competition; we are also the only firm in New Zealand who have had the courage to break away from tho old customs, and givo the public the benefit of the saving. Their hearty support has been our reward. Crown Clothing Manufacturing Company, Limited, Oashel Street, Christchurch (and at Auckland). 2057
