ROAD BOARDS.

ANNUAL MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. The annual meeting of ratepayers of the Geraldine Road District was held On Wednesday, Mr Kelland presiding. All the members of tho Road Board were present, as well as a fair number of ratepayers. Tho report and balancesheet showed, that damages by Hood had involved additional expenditure, an'd the credit balance was reduced from £2349 to £2030. Various works were detailed, and the need of protective works in Pleasant Valley explained. Mr Kelland stated that he was retiring from the Board, after many years service, and he gratefully acknowledged the support he had received from tho ratepayers, his colleagues, and the staff. ■ A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Kelland for his services, and tho members of the Board and the- staff wore also thanked for their good work. Mr Maslin drew attention to tho Local Government Bill, which, he said, proposed to wipe out road boards and take them back to where they were twenty-five years He condemned the proposed dual system of voting, under which all the power would bo given the centres of population. He moved that the.member for | the district should lie asked to strenuously oppose the Bill. The chairman seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The election of three members to serve on the ■. Board took place on Wednesday, when Messrs A. Wilkinson. J. Wharton, and C. S. Thomson wore i returned. . TEMUKA. Nominations for tho election of office for the Temuka Road Board close on Wednesday. The following nominations were received :—Messrs J. J. Ellis, D. Grant," W. Hide, and G. Smart. As only three members are. required an election will be held on May 6.
