£Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February- 26. A thirteeri-roomed house at Ponsonby. occupied bv Mr and Mrs O’Leary and family, and six boarders, was partially destroyed by fire to-night. When the fire brolce out about ten o’clock the occupants were abed and asleep,' and they had just time to get out of the building uninjured. The upper and a portion of the lower storey were gutted. The furniture was insured for £250 in the Commercial Union Office. Mrs O’Leary’s loss is considerably in excess of that sum. The house was owned by Sirs Thompson, of Northcote. Her inturance is not known.

Marshall, of Kaifjoura. ‘ The house was unoccupied, and tiie fire apparently started in a cupboard under the stairway. The Five Brigade received a telephone alarm at fl 22 a.m., and arrived in time to con'fine the lire to tho stairs and upper landing, which were much damaged by fire, the rest of the building being slightly damaged by heat avid smoke. Incendiarism is suspected. The house was insured in the State Fire Office for £450.
